"Jesus said to them, 'I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst.'" - John 6:35
Enhancing the spiritual life of our parish
The Worship and Spiritual Development Commission fosters and enhances the spiritual life of the Cathedral parish by the planning and implementation of worship and spiritual development opportunities according to the liturgical norms of the Roman Catholic Church.
Our Liturgy Committee organizes Sunday Masses, as well as the variety of devotions that are part of our rich Roman Catholic Tradition.
Additionally, this committee organizes the various ministries of the parish, including Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, altar servers, offertory families, ushers, lectors, greeters and special considerations for seasonal celebrations.
Laity who assist the clergy in the distribution of Holy Communion during Mass, as well as to those who are home-bound or sick, are called "Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion."
All EMHC are invited to read and review the Guide for Extraordinary Ministers guide. If you are interested in becoming an EMHC, you are also invited to view this guide.
You can learn more about the practice of Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion from the US Conference of Catholic Bishops.
Serving at Mass and other liturgies is an important role because the server is assisting, not just the priest, but the whole worshipping community. Hence, altar servers are called to be aware of their role and their responsibility in performing it well.
Families in our parish are invited to volunteer as Offertory Families, who present gifts at the altar during Mass.
If your family is interested in taking the gifts up at Mass, please contact the Parish Office by calling 660-882-6468.
Ushers assist the faithful before and during Mass, taking up the collection and distributing bulletins after Masses.
If you are interested in serving as an Usher at Mass, please contact the Parish Office by calling 660-882-6468.
Lectors are readers, who proclaim the Word of God at liturgies. All new lectors will have a training session prior to being assigned.
If you are interested in becoming a Lector, please contact the parish office today to sign up and receive news of the next lector training session.
Greeters welcome parishioners and visitors to Mass. These are the first faces our parishioners and visitors see when they enter the church for Mass.
We hope to provide a welcoming, joyful entrance to our church through greeters who reach out to open doors and say, "Hello!" to all who enter.
Greeters may also assist in the "October Count," a weekend in the fall where our parish "takes count" of the Mass attendees in an effort to measure our engagement and ministries from year-to-year.
Sacred Music is a vital component of the Holy Mass.
